3* Michelin Restaurant
Visited: May 13th, 2016 – Dinner Service
The first time I heard about Grace was about 2 years ago, after the Michelin guide bestowed it with the coveted Three Stars. The second time I heard about it, was through a stranger, now a good friend, Anise. My husband and I met her during our trip to Machu Picchu, Perú in November, 2015. Anise, based in Chicago, was raving to us about the intricacies of her dining experience at Grace. Naturally, a trip to Chicago was planned to eat at Grace and to also see our new friend, Anise.
I made a reservation at Grace by calling the restaurant exactly two months before our planned date. The reservationist asked us where we were coming from and if we were celebrating anything special. I replied by saying, “We are visiting from Seattle to eat at your restaurant.” She replied, “Wow, that is very special! Thank you very much for choosing us.”
There are two tasting menu choices at Grace, “Flora” which focuses on the seasonality of vegetables, while “Fauna” focuses on vegetables, as well as seafood and meat. We opted for the Fauna, along with wine pairings.
We always opt for wine pairings in tasting menus because, as the husband puts it, “I don’t want to think about it, just get the damn wine pairings!” Wine pairing is where the Sommelier’s expertise comes in. Our Sommelier, Valerie, was fabulous. She was very knowledgeable in the wine she was serving, and explained to us the nuances of the wine and why it pairs well with the presented dish.
Our whole experience at Grace was perfection. The food was remarkable, and the staff delivered phenomenal service. I want to give a special thank you to our main hostess, Amy, for providing us with an impeccable, yet fun service. Every course was strong, from the amuse-bouche to the final dessert, all exuded elegance, sophistication, balance, and beauty.
At the end of our meal, the lovely staff at Grace took us back to the kitchen for a tour and to witness the team in action. We also met the master behind it all, Chef Curtis Duffy. This whole dinner experience was definitely one of the many highlights of my life.
